D.I.Y. Desk Organizer

You will need:

8 toilet rolls

2 cardboard boxes (cereal)

Washi or Duct tape

sticky tape

ruler

Step 1: Measure about 10 centimetres up on the side of your box with your ruler and draw a strait line across the box 10 centimetres up. Cut along your strait line and now you have your base for the pencil or cord organiser.

Step 2: Cover your 8 toilet rolls with washi or duct tape, and stick them all together in one of the corners of the box.

Step 3: Take your second box and cut out some of the sides according to the measurements of your base box. Slide them into place, making sure to leave room for your toilet rolls.

Step 4: Take your sticky tape and stick your 8 toilet rolls together before sliding them into place in your base box. You can no decorate your box!

Step 5: Slide in your chords or put in your pencils and you are finished! Well done, I hope you liked this tutorial!

D.I.Y. Organisation Part 2

1. Are you one of those people who doesn’t quite bring back their notes on time? 0799Guilty. Well if you are, this is the perfect one for you. What I did is I got a wire magazine rack from officeworks that wasn’t too heavy and I also got some pushpins. Take your rack and position it where you want it on your wall, then take your pushpins (I only used two because my rack was quite light) and push one of them through one of the holes of the wire rack, and then take the other pin and push it opposite to where you put the other pin. You are done! I use this for putting school notes in. Now I never bring back a late note again.

2. Does your desk look like this?  But you want it to look like this?

This simple tray will help your organise a little bit better. You will need, a glass picture frame and some patterned paper. First take apart your picture frame apart and then take some colourful or patterned paper and cut it to fit nicely inside your frame. Put the frame together and you are done! Now you have a great desk organiser.

3. Another great organiser for your desk is this money spending organiser. This helps you keep track of what you have bought and how much it was, what you want to but and how much it was and how how much you have earned and what it was for. All you need is three receipt spikes. What you do is cut three small pieces of paper to fit at the bottom of your spikes, then write ‘What I’ve Bought’ on one ‘What I Want To Buy’ on another, and ‘What I’ve Earned’ on the last one. Then stick the pieces of paper on the bottom of the spikes, and you are done! Now I know what I have bought, earned and what I want to buy.

4. This one isn’t really a D.I.Y., but more of a storage idea. If you have way too much washi and duct tape, just get a drawer divider, (or even a cutlery organiser might work) from officeworks or any shop like that, and then just simply place your washi and duct tape in he organiser. Once I  placed all of my tape in the organiser, I just placed the organiser in my desk drawer. Now I know where all of my decorative tape is.

How To Make A Tumblr Glow Jar

You Will Need:

  • Glass jar
  • Acetate (You can buy it from most craft stores or office supply store. You could also try looking on ebay)
  • Glow in the dark 3D fabric paint (you have to use glow in the dark 3d fabric paint, because if it isn’t 3d fabric paint it won’t stick to the acetate and it will spread out and it won’t look like a galaxy, and if it isn’t glow in the dark you won’t be able to see it in the dark!)

Instructions

  1. Take your acetate and measure it to size so it can fit nicely around the inside of your jar.
  2. Now take your paint and to get the galaxy effect, do one layer of SMALL dots on your acetate and let it dry, then do one layer of MEDIUM dots and let it dry and then do one layer of BIG dots and let it dry. Make sure you put the dots close together as well. You can also use a hairdryer to dry the dots.
  3. Next roll up your sheet of dots with the bumpy side out and put the sheet in your jar. YOU ARE  DONE!!

How To Make A Whiteboard Calendar

You Will Need:

  • Paint samples (I used red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and pink, with the darkest of that colour at the top of that row and the lightest colour at the bottom of that row (ombre style!))
  • Lined Paper (Optional)
  • White Paper
  • GLASS picture frame (It has to be glass because otherwise you won’t be able to write on it with a whiteboard marker) (Make sure if you want a notes section on your calendar, you have a bigger frame.)

What You Do

  1. Take your picture frame and take out the glass. If there is a piece of paper, or cardboard take it out and you can stick so you can stick your things on it.
  2. Arrange your paint samples in ombre (ombre means colour fading from darkest to lightest) order 7 across the top, and 5 going down and stick them down. You can use sticky tape balls or double sided tape to stick them down..
  3. Now cut 7 small pieces of white paper that can fit nicely across the top of each paint sample and write 1 day of the week on each different piece of paper. Stick them down above each paint sample.
  4. Next cut 2 pieces of white paper about 6 cm across and 2 1/2 cm up. Then cut 1 piece of white paper about 8 1/2 cm across and 2 1/2 cm up. Then stick the bigger piece of paper in the middle of the two smaller pieces paper. (These are the measurements that fit my picture frame which was 62 cm across and 42 cm up. But if these measurements are too big or too small, just make sure once your calendar’s done, that you can write with a whiteboard marker the DATE and the YEAR in the SMALLER pieces of paper and the MONTH in the BIGGER piece of paper.) (Just look at the photo of the finished calendar if you still don’t get it, and hopefully the picture will clear things up.)
  5. If you DON’T want a NOTES section on your calendar, YOU ARE DONE!!!
  6. But if you DO want a NOTES section, keep following these steps! (I put a notes section in mine, but you don’t have to. I also put a D.I.Y.’s To Do section, because I LOVE to D.I.Y. and I find it hard to keep track of what D.I.Y.’s I want to do!)
  7. Cut a piece of lined paper to fit the side of your frame and stick it down.
  8. Now cut a piece of white paper 8 1/2 cm across and 2 1/2 cm up. Then stick it above the lined paper.
  9. Now you are DONE!!!!!
  10. But if you have a little extra room under the lined paper and if you are a D.I.Y LOVER (lover is an understatement!) like me, you can add a D.I.Y.’s To Do section, to keep track of all those D.I.Y.’s you want to do. Still a D.I.Y. LOVER but don’t have any room under the lined paper? I got you covered! Just do your D.I.Y.’s To Do list ON your notes section.
  11. For the D.I.Y.’s To Do section just cut another bit on lined paper and stick it under the notes section. Then write D.I.Y.’s To Do on the top. NOW YOU ARE ACTUALLY DONE!!!

How To Spice Up Your Room!

The first thing to do us try to colour coordinate things or make your room have some sort of theme. If your favourite colour is pink or blue or whatever, then you can try to find or you can buy things that are the same colour. If you like jungles or the desert or anything that has something like that you can make posters or get pictures of the theme you like. Also if you like a character or a singer you can put up nice posters or you can do drawings or buy a little things that you can put up all around your room.

A good way to get a theme or a colour coordination idea for your room is to look at your pillow slips  or your blankets or doona cover and use the colour/s or the pattern or whatever is one it and decorate your room with those colours or patterns.

It’s also a nice idea to put up fairy lights or Christmas lights. Whether it is Winter, Summer, Spring or Autumn you can use some of these ideas to decorate your room. It it’s Summer, it is a good idea to use bright colours for your room such as green, blue, pink, red, purple, etc. In Summer it is also nice to put up pictures of flowers or anything summery. In winter you can make blue or white snowflakes and put them up around your room. Winter is a cold season so you can put darker colours in your room and maybe change your doona cover to a darker colour such as navy blue, purple or dark red. When it’s Spring you can put up heaps of pictures of flowers and trees and plants and stuff like that and animals. In Autumn you can decorate your room with colours such as brown, red, orange, gold and yellow. You can also decorate your room with Autumn leaves.

Look at some of our other D.I.Y.’s and decorate your room with them!

D.I.Y. Organisation

1. It is always a good idea to store small things such as erasers, badges, earphones etc in colourful buckets. I got three small colourful buckets from a local craft store. In mine I store hair accessories, mini bouncy balls and stamps.

2. If you want to store bigger things, it is always a good idea to use under bed storage. You can get colourful and pretty under bed storage boxes at Ikea and I’m sure they sell them at other shops as well.

3.For this D.I.Y. you will need some scissors , sticky tape and a cereal or biscuit box, you will also need coloured paper. Washi or duct tape is optional for this project. Let’s get started! First you will need to take your cereal or biscuit box and top part so it looks a bit like a tray. You should now have the bottom on still and both the sides, but the top part shouldn’t be on your creation any more. The next thing to do is sticky tape up anything that needs to be fixed and decorate the outside of your box with washi tape and coloured paper. You are done! This is perfect for keeping books in or scrap books even, you can really pile up anything you want in here and the best thing is it still looks neat!

4.Do you ever have papers or notes or anything like that sitting around your room and getting jumbled up with everything else? If so this D.I.Y. will be perfect for your you! I know how you feel, I’m always losing things! The supplies you will need are: Decorating supplies, stickers , washi tape, stamps, coloured paper etc. You will also need   an old tray, or a box that isn’t to high . These will need to be A4 if they are going to be holding A4 paper. Another thing you will need is cardboard, A4 sized or strong paper. You can always use a box, tray or something with with sides that is bigger than an A4 size piece of paper. The first step is decorating. Go crazy with stickers washi tape stamps, coloured paper and anything else! Next take one categorie of papers and put them in the bottom of the tray/box. Then put a piece of paper on top and put your next categorie of papers, continue this until you are at the top of the tray or box.

D.I.Y. Life Hacks

1.The first life hack is definitely hanging up your bags. All you need to do is take some coat hangers and hang your bags up in your wardrobe.

2. This is a life hack on making your bed. If you sleep with a blanket and a sheet and a doona, roll your doona down to the end of your bed and just sleep with your sheet and your blanket. In the morning roll up your doona cover from the bottom of your bed and it looks like you have made your bed when you have really just rolled up your doona!

3. Do you ever forget things you need to remember? Well this will be perfect for those of you who do. If you really need to remember to take your pencil case to and from school every day or something like that then you can take a piece of paper and write it out in big colourful letters and use stickers and pens to decorate it. Stick it on your wall somewhere you look every day and you are done!

4.The things you will need for this D.I.Y are small pieces of paper (coloured is best) blue tack or sticky tape, string and a marker or sharpie.Cut up 7 pieces of your coloured paper and write the days of the week on them. Then hang it up somewhere and cut out some more pieces of paper and write what you need to do on certain days, then stick them on under the days of the week. Look at your days of the week each day and you will be organised and you won’t forget a thing!

How To Make A Pinboard

You Will Need:

  • Any glue except for fabric glue and a glue stick
  • 2 or more cork placemats (I got mine from IKEA and they have trees on them, you have to use at least 2 mats because otherwise the push pin will stick out of the other side)
  • Washi tape and or duct tape (decorative tape) (optional)
  • Paint brush(optional)

Method

  1. Take your first mat (I am using three) and brush a layer of glue on top of it. (You can pick any side of the mat because this one will be at the very back)
  2. Get your next mat and place on top of the mat with the layer of glue. (Again you can put any side down because this will be the middle mat if you are using 3 mats. But if you are using 2 mats put the side you don’t want to be shown face down on the glue.) Paint one more layer of glue on the top of the second mat if you are using three or more, put some heavy books on the top of the mats to help the glue set. Leave the books on until you think the mats have dried. If you are only using two mats go straight on to step 4.
  3. Place the next mat on top of the glue, but put the side you don’t want to be seen face down on the glue, and again place some heavy books on top of the mats until you think they have dried.
  4. Next once you have stuck down all your mats, brush a layer of glue around ALL of the sides of the mat, and all the layers of your mat.
  5. (Optional) Wait for the glue on the sides to dry and place your decorative tape around the sides of the mat, to hide the fact that they used to be placemats, so it looks like one whole thing.
  6. Enjoy your new pin board!

How To Hang It Up On The Wall

If you want to hang your pinboard on the wall there are two options that I know of,

  1. Get some COMMAND PICTURE HANGING STRIPS and stick about 1 on each corner.
  2. Get some string and wrap it around 2 pushpins one on either side of the string. Then once the string is secure stick one pushpin on either side of your pinboard and hang it on the wall with some removable hooks.

How To Make A Pencil Case/Bag

Supplies you will need:

duct tape

fabric

staples

stapler

scissors

zip 9-10 inches (25.4 centimetres)

Chain or strap (Optional)

2 small pieces of fabric (optional)

Step 1: First off, cut some fabric about 10 by 15 inches (38 centimetres) by 10 inches (around 25 centimetres).

Step 2: Line the inside of the fabric with duct tape.

Step 3: Take your zip and face it the wrong way down on one side of the sides.

Step 4: Take your stapler and staple the zip facing the duct tape onto one of the sides. Then, with the zip facing to the duct tape, staple the zip to the other side. Then you want to pull the zip into the middle and make sure that the zip is open when you staple it to the other side. Your creation should look like a cylinder. The duct tape should be facing out and the fabric should be on the inside.

Step 5: Then take your stapler again and staple the shorter ends together. The next thing you will need to do is staple the corners about an inch (2.54 centimetres) in. Cut the extra duct tape off your creation and repeat this for the other three sides. Next you need to open your zip and flip your creation inside so you can see the fabric. You are done!

Step 6: (Optional) If you want to add something else to your bag/ pencil case you can add a strap or a chain by attaching a piece of fabric to either sides of your zip, (making sure you don’t cover the zip) you can staple or glue this, and then attach your chain or strap by stapling it inside the small piece of fabric close to the zip, repeat this step on the other side and your bag is done!
